Ancient Agora (ancient market) had been discovered in excavations, in the period from 1948 to 1955. year by the French archaeological school. The construction of the ancient market  began in 4th century BC and completed in 2nd century BC. Developed and spread in the direction of the sea, ancient agora was the heart of the ancient city of Thassos.  It was the commercial, political and religious center of the island. Three gates secured the entrance in the port and approach to the market in the ancient period. Visit to ancient agora will help you to understand the size of the city. Here you will find the remains of the entrance gates, the remains of altars, tombs, a temple dedicated to Zeus and circular altar dedicated to Teagenisu.
