Sights

The ancient theater is located on a hilltop in Limenas, in a natural hole on the side of the mountain. When you are watching the panorama from the top of the theater, you may have the impression that you can hug the island Tasopula, the sea and the coast on the other side of the land. It has stood out there, since the 5th century BC and because of the beauty of the view from the top, we can understand why our ancestors chose to build it there. Nowadays the residents of Thassos, who kept the tradition of their ancestors, are using this amphitheater as a center of culture. Every summer there are variety of performances as well as the Festival Filipon-Thassos in July and August, which is organized under the auspices of the Municipality of Thassos. The performances that take place here are very different in types and kinds, as well as in quality and originality. The ancient drama performances, and other performances from all over Greece are happening here, and the audience gladly watch them every summer. Children shows and the amateur theater troupes also performes here. As well as concerts of famous Greek singers, that are adding in variety and make this cultural bouquet even more beautiful.
